  1. Due to only have a handful of applications submitted, I'm going to extend this for another week. Get your applications in!
  2. The question(s) in this support topic have been answered and the owner has been able to solve the problem. Because of this, the support topic has been closed and moved. If you have other questions, please open a new topic.
  3. Sorry for the delayed response.. was having dinner. I checked both of the themes you mentioned, and neither seem to be having the issue you're describing in your initial post. Are you using a smaller resolution? If not, try clearing your browser cache, recaching the skin, and then checking to see if the problem still persists. Unless of course you've already fixed it, in which case, please mark this topic solved by using the button.

The old format for ForumCore was a spam fest. We had it set up so that users had to either "like" or reply "thanks" to the download topic to gain access to it. Problem is, so many other sites cloned that format that we had thousands of users replying with "thanks", "cool", etc even though we had changed the configuration to require a "like" only. Believe me, I empathize with the lack of activity with the rest of you. Not particularly thrilled about the concept of nearly two year's worth of work being for nothing. The Staff team here is incredibly gifted and dedicated, and I assure you, we will do everything within our power to prevent WebFlake from circling the drain. We haven't given up yet, and you guys shouldn't either. Keep the suggestions coming -- I'm always open to them!
  5. Assuming the link in your signature is the same site, the shoutbox avatars are displaying fine for me. I did notice that .ipsUserPhoto_icon is set to 16 x 16 pixels instead of the default 20 x 20. You can try changing that in ipb_styles.

Unfortunately, the only way to truly prevent cloning would be to create exclusive memberships. By imposing a much larger post restriction, we risk tarnishing the quality of the community by having to combat a flood of spam posts. I'd willingly sacrifice a large number of daily visitors in favor of a cleaner community. Otherwise, I'm putting an enormous workload on the team's shoulders. The best way to combat these clones is to let our members choose for themselves. We acknowledge that there will be competition. We've crushed it all before. Clone sites on the other hand, are burner pages looking to make a quick dollar from an unsuspecting user. We go to great lengths to ensure our content is safe for our users, and always provide quality support. A site that looks identical to WebFlake by using the same skin, forum icons, category descriptions and layout should be self-explanatory: they're fraudulent.

We've tried something similar in the past, to no avail. Post requirements generally encourage spam. I put together a concept months ago, that would create a new "Lurker" group that has access only to our Intros forum. If the user makes a reasonable effort with their intro, we manually approve it and they're bumped to Member. This has its rewards and plenty of drawbacks. The problem with attempting to impose more restrictions, is that it usually serves as a deterrent. The problem isn't with our current design, it's what we offer. The fact that we're constantly combating duplicitous clones of WebFlake and those who seek to defraud our members is what really puts a strain on our community. This is about as cliche as Lindsay Lohan's promises of sobriety. Every community struggles, particularly those with a project focus such as ours: warez. Users will always be more interested in getting what they need and leaving. Most users will not want to create ties to a community that could potentially be traced back to their website(s), within reason. This isn't "new" knowledge either. We had less than five average users during the months of July / August last year. We boomed during the Fall. It's the nature of webmaster communities.
  8. Piece of advice: do your research, and be wary. A lot of offshore hosting is mostly resale hosts, meaning.. they're not financially secure without customers and typically offer no service or backup guarantees. If you spend cheap, expect cheap. It's entirely possible to host within the United States and not be outed. You simply need to be careful and select a quality host that doesn't scan your content on a persistent basis.
  9. I don't believe there is any method to doing this without creating a custom hook. If you're willing to pay for it, you're welcome to post in our Marketplace and see if any of our resident freelancers are interested.
  10. For more in-depth customization, I recommend using Tom Christian's Offline Pages app.
  11. Applications closing tomorrow! If you're still interested, apply today. Questions or concerns? Contact me directly.
  12. Oops, indeed it is, just double-checked. That is my mistake. You have my apologies. Confirming:
  13. I believe this is the hook we use, although that particular copy isn't updated despite the version. The version number is correct, but the hook author failed to update the version on the IPS Marketplace. It should be 1.0.7.
  14. Allowing users to view given reputation seems to bring out a vengeance in some. We don't want to foster abuse of the system by way of "retaliation down-votes", where a simple disagreement leads to someone using their entire daily quota on the user who issued that one down-vote. Make no mistake, we're aware that there will still be users who abuse the system and those users will be dealt with, swiftly. If you believe you are being unfairly targeted by another user, please contact a member of Staff.

  16. Not the appropriate forum. Moved to Webmaster Lounge.

    Feedback Friendly URLs

WebFlake has used FURLs since launch. There may be the occasional odd link, but likely a result of our domain extension change.
  18. I have removed the ability for members to view who has given reputation to their post(s). You'll still be able to see how many points your post has, but you'll no longer be able to click the number and view the individual votes. The only users on WebFlake capable of viewing these individual votes are Staff.

  20. Four (4) more days to get your applications in!
  21. One more addendum added for the newly created Retired Staff usergroup.
  22. Updating the FAQ now. Thanks for the reminder.
  23. Small addendum to Marketplace changes, regarding the sale of licences. Please review it!
  24. It's that time again! We're rolling out a few more updates to the site, most of which are outlined below. Feel free to post any questions, comments, or concerns. I've removed the three previous Question & Answer challenge questions at the registration screen and replaced them with three new questions. I plan to add additional questions over the next few days. These questions will be progressively harder than previous iterations, solely as an effort to combat continued registrations by spam bots. Please remember to do your part and report spam posts / profiles as you see them! Regular members may no longer sell licences in our Marketplace. This includes licences for IPS, XenForo, or vBulletin. The risk of scamming is far too great, and neither of these companies officially support licence transfers. However, trusted members may continue to sell licences. What is a trusted member? Anyone belonging to the following usergroups: Staff (Admin, HM, Mod), Veteran, Support Team, Uploader, or Retired Staff. Essentially anyone but Members and +Donators. Also, our Marketplace now requires a minimum of fifteen (15) posts to create or reply to any topics there. This will not prevent users from viewing the topics, so if you list an external contact method, users will still be able to make an attempt to initiate a trade. We added this new restriction to prevent new users from offering services with their first post, and to bring our site-wide posting restrictions parallel to one another. As you should already be aware, to submit requests or use our shoutbox you are required to have fifteen (15) posts as well. Which brings me to... The previous post restriction for sending / receiving Private Messages on WebFlake has been increased from ten (10) to fifteen (15), to synchronize with other posting restrictions. New awards have been added to the site! See them all on our Awards page. New posting achievements as well! All awards except posting achievements and your award for your first upload have to be manually issued. If you believe you're missing an award, please contact an Administrator. Our Veterans usergroup has been purged and all retired Staff have been moved to their very own usergroup: Retired Staff. We've received a lot of feedback from the community about this, most of it not so enthusiastic about the current use of our Veterans usergroup. As a result, we're restoring that usergroup to the community and have even promoted Lock Down as its first member. Why are the colors so similar? Simple. Retired Staff are no different than our members. We don't want any presumed hierarchy between the two groups. The only difference between the two is extra perks, such as access to +Donator areas and expanded caps. They've all earned that much. New usergroup logo for Retired Staff: More updates in the coming days. Stay tuned!
