    1) yes you can do a direct upgrade. Make sure before you continue to do the following * set default theme to ips * disable all 3rd party hooks and applications installed Now 2) Your actually answering your own question. Upgrade to a fresh database = clean install else it would lot be fresh. As the databases are major different on how they function and how they store your data. Make sure you backup all files and your database prior to upgrading. That way you can always downgrade. Without backup you can't go back.

    I can see this has been answered but i wanted to give my input even though its been the same. Each subforum is for each client You can use IPS Connect (AdminCP > System > Settings > LoginHandlers) to connect all users to 1 master forum (Main domain) This means the main forum and the subforums share the same login if needed. Though you can have different admins for different client.

    That can be a problem? Could you show me a list of plugins you installed and the ones you disabled please? Again its your database that needs to be fixed not the forum. You can install 4.2.6 from scratch is an idea depending on how much data you have

    Well I had no issues to upgrade to 4.2 and I'm on stable 4.2.4 But what I was trying to tell you are. It's not 4.2 that the issue, it's your OLD database that's the issue and have problems. I would suggest restoring back to 4.1 then fix the database BEFORE you upgrade. I don't know how you normally upgrade, but always take defensive steps like disable all 3rd party plugins, applications and themes. Restore to default IPS theme before attempting an upgrade, did you do this?

    You can't use a BLOB / Text as primary key, and that's why you get the error. Now, this was an upgrade I understood what did you upgrade from? Also, did you try to upgrade to 4.2.6 that the latest version to avoid any issues with possible update bugs?

    I'm sorry why am I tagged hre ? Its correct its a database error but for @gRaffikes i would say READ the ERROR, IPS has even provided a solution for him to do. ALTER TABLE `core_groups` CHANGE COLUMN `g_edit_posts` `g_edit_posts` TEXT CHARACTER SET utf8mb4 COLLATE utf8mb4_unicode_ci NULL Run it in your SQL editor or PhpMyAdmin. If that throws error we would need to know what the error is from there.

    https://ckeditor.com/cke4/addons/ IPS is using CKeditor so you could extend it with these plugins. Make sure you read the documentation!
