This is their stance on apps

bfarber:

We previously went the app route and determined that we do not feel this is the best path for our software. We have a mobile skin presently, and with 4.0 we will be building that out dramatically to create a complete "web app" (a "web app" meaning that there will be no downloadable or installable app via an app store, but rather visiting the site in a mobile browser will load everything necessary).

iOS Apps need a certificate to work on Iphones/ipod/ipad

Android would be easy, although i wouldnt really make a special app for that, just use tapatalk

a certificate you mean from the ios developer point of view or inboard?

i have an ios developer account and woudl really like to know if this is possible

tapatalk offers a cutom build your own tapatalk

but this costs a lot

like a 99 fee and monthly charge

in this case tapatalk gie you the binary and you can submit this to yhe app store

i was thinking if anyone has tried to do it without tapatalk

oh i made an android app for it.

Usually you would just need to export the XML and make a layout design for it to assign the forums to tabs

and since you have the certificate (xCode cert if i am right) you can make an app

yeah thats true

but will it be possible to have login details and a user can login through my app?

i dont know how to put it though in a more detailed manner

i have seen frum apps on the app store that uses ip board and when you open them they have the optionto login as a user and post reply to threads...

IPB already has iOS browser support built in. You can make a skin an overlay it as a mobile skin.

You don't even need to make an iOS app. People can save, "bookmark" your website and it goes onto the springboard.

I guess you could make an app that redirects the person to your mobile forum.

Just my .2.
