CSS edit doesn't apply to the Shoutbox EDIT: DOESN'T APPLY AT ALL!!! NOT JUST SHOUTBOX

Guest test3

Question

Well that's weird.. I modify skins and such by changing their CSS code, but for some reason, the shoutbox style won't change.

What I mean is, for example, .ipsBox, .ipsPad. When picking that up with the FireBug (basically the border of the shoutbox), it says it's from ipb_ckeditor.css:

but when I went there, it wasn't there, so I went to general skin css file (ipb_styles.css) whenre I DID find it,

But for some reason, changes won't apply for it. When I change the padding option, for example, to 2 and save, I go back and refresh only to find it the changes didn't take place and it still shows it as 9px.

What's wrong there and how can I fix it? D: I always want to edit table.ipb_table td but the same problem occurs there as well.

Thanks guys

Please note that I have edited this way many many times and so I'm sure I saved correctly etc etc etc, you don't have to wonder concerning that

No you should use your skin but you will have to find why your skin doesn't change the pad.

I meant I did inspect element as you said you did and it worked for me by changing the 9 to 19..

OH GOD DUDE...

I tried to chamge some complete RANDOM stuff in the forum (ipb_styles.css), I save the changes, refresh page (even hard-refresh, even though I never had to do that in order to apply changes), and IT IS AS IF I DIDN'T CHANGE ANYTHING. (FireBug shows the PREVIOUS parameters, and you can also see that nothing is changed)! I was wrong all this time, it's not ShoutBox-related (maybe it is, but I now realize that this issue applies to the forum in general)... What is weirdis that just a few hours ago I was able (and DID) to modity the CSS file and fix the design... what has gone wrong?!?!

I now even completely REMOVED(!) HALF of the ipb_styles.css code, saved, and realized that the forum is intact, as if nothing was removed at all!

BOTTOM LINE:

It seems that saves made after altering ipb_styles.css (maybe other CSS files too, idk at this moments) are FALSE SAVES! it says it saves the file, and even after relogging you can see the new paramets, but in reality, using your eyes and Firebug, you can see the old parameters, as if you didn't change anything.

What is going on? D: How do I fix this?! =[

Please tell me this is not a big deal and I can solve this =[

UPDATE: Freaking out (& no actual help using Google), I uploaded the skin (a fresh copy), defined it to use the 'old' skin's image set (since I modified a few there, and since the issue obviously isn't picture related), copy & pasted the 'old' ipb_styles.css code (along with a few other template & CSS files I have modified in ACP), saved, and walla - it's all working perfectly fine, and on top of that I was able to fix and modify the Shoutbox as I wanted!

I can probably call it 'solved', seeing how I can just hide the 'old' skin and make the new one the default, but then again - it is just a detour I have taken (as brilliant as it may be, if I might add, LOL) so mods - if you don't mind, I would like to have this thread still opened to try and figure out (with the rest of you) what was the cause of it.

Thanks!

I am not all to sure on it's name, however I do know for a fact that the shoutbox uses CSS from a different file, which should be listed in the panel to the right of the code displayed.

You probably mean this:

but the code isn't there for some reason.

That is interesting. Mine makes it change. Try it with the default skin.

I don't have the shoutbox with the default skin, should I have it?

Anyway guys, let me bemore specific.

When viewing Shoutbox, click on "My Prefs", for example. you now have this new pop-up (Same goes for shoutbox moderator box etc etc)

Click within the box using FireBug until you get to this field;  table.ipb_table td:

I wanted to add direction command there (direction: rtl;), which obviously WORK and does the work when I try it in firebug, but when I go and actually edit it (again, found in ipb_styles.css, although it says it is in another file - it isn't..) it doesn't show. I then tried, again, editing the padding (from 15 to another integer), and refreshed to realize it is still 15..

This is the same issue basically, but this one is more urgent to me

Seems that is happening to a lot of members. It is arbitrary occurrence and I have not seen a fix for it.

Usually manually editing the file and then rebuilding from the xml works.

Also members who had safe mode on and then turn it off have this problem.

Oh I see, okay thanks!

So I marked my comment as "solved", and you guys can go ahead and move this thread.
