Mentions not working

Using version 4.2.5, when mentioning a user in the editor it works just fine, but in the view topic it just appears as plain text, however for a split second when loading a topic the mention background appears but is gone just as quick. Any ideas what could be causing this?

This is only an issue on the theme I'm using, as it works perfectly on other themes, but I don't want to use other themes.

i sppose you need to update the theme, or really the other solution is changing theme

Well, it would be fixable for someone who knows how the mention system works, but sadly I haven't invested enough time into exploring how it works so I'm blind on this issue, which is why I came here for help, but it doesn't appear anyone here is able to help, so I guess I'm on my own, you can go ahead and close this topic, thanks.
