Seperate Registration for Subforums

intelcoresolo320

Question

Hi,  sorry if this has been answered before but I couldn't find anything when I searched.  I would like to set up my forum so that certain (but not every) subforums (for simplicity let's call them client subforums) can have a seperate group of users.  I would want these users to be able to access the client subforum they registered for and all of the global subforums, but not the other client's subforums.  I would also want moderators of each client subforum to be able to ban and delete/promote to moderator their users but not any other users. Is this possible on version 4.2.6?

Hello Intelcoresolo320,

To be honest, I don't think it is possible for users to register for a specific subforum.
You can, on the other hand, assign them to a specific rank and then edit the subforum permissions that only the specific group can see that part of your forum.

For example, you have "Member 1" which should be in "ClientName A" then give him the ClientName A rank which you made earlier.
Then change the permissions of the subforums that only users with the rank "ClientName A" can see that part of the forum.

Thanks for your quite answer.  Okay I was thinking it might be something like that, but I wasn't sure if I was missing something.  Would it be possible to restrict a moderator to one subforum and only allow them to delete/ban members of that rank?

E.g. "Member 1" is in "ClientName A" rank and so is "Moderator A" but "Member 2" is not. Moderator A can delete/ban/promote etc Member 1 but not Member 2.  Is that possible?  I want (if possible) the subforums to be moderated seperately from the rest of the forum.

No problem, glad to help out.

First of all, I don't think it is possible to make it so that a moderator can edit specific members only, like you said in your example.
It's either delete, ban and promote all members or no member at all.

Second, you can specificy specific moderator groups/ranks to a specific forum or in this case subforum. You can do this in the permissions of the subforum.

So to clarify they'll be able to manage all members but only their subforum?  Or they can manage the subforum and no members at all?

There are multiple posibilities here:

  • Let them manage the subforums and all the members.
  • Let them manage the subforums and no members at all.
  • They can not manage the subforums but they can manage all the members.

Okay thanks for all your help, I think for my purposes I'll let them manage the subforum and no members so they cannot affect members that don't belong to them.

I can see this has been answered but i wanted to give my input even though its been the same.

  • Each subforum is for each client
  • You can use IPS Connect (AdminCP > System > Settings >  LoginHandlers) to connect all users to 1 master forum (Main domain)
  • This means the main forum and the subforums share the same login if needed.
  • Though you can have different admins for different client.
