has the search function ever worked for members? have you changed any of the search settings? if your board works fine apart apart from search it is wholly unnecessary to start changing board versions and overwriting files.does the normal search work on the frontend of the board? there is a built in option to show / hide member profiles from any group, it also includes viewing the member list too. Member Groups > Manage Member Groups > admin > Global or did u try Sphinx search then change it back?

so have you recached apps via apps and modules? -
clear your logs.do 1 search only of 1 members name and give us that 1 error from the sql log and your error log

if you are using nexus this can cause errors but usually goto apps and mdules>recache apps will sort the problem on vip members,i have come across the same thing with this mod when moving servers.the countdown always stops.recaching apps sorts it -

This application will allow admins to export member's name and member's email to CSV (Comma Separated Values) format to be used elsewhere, like Gmail, Outlook or any other email application. All members information (like Custom Profile Fields) are available to be used in a search to export the data. What's New in Version 2.0.1 Script optimization to avoid memory error. -
did you change any search settings perhaps to sphinx option? you never need to remake your forum with stuff like this ,patience will resolve.the worse you would have to do is overwrite the old files but i do not believe this is the case.did you check error and sql logs
