  1. There has been an awful lot of internal discussion the last few days regarding IP.Board 4.x and WebFlake's future with the 4.x series. I'm not going to disclose many details about those discussions but what I would like to do is poll the community (yet again) for their opinions on IP.Board 4.x. These are the three topics we would greatly appreciate your input on: Will you upgrade to IP.Board 4.x? We're interested in knowing how many of our members are planning to upgrade to IP.Board 4.x, if at all. Whether you plan to upgrade tomorrow, next week, or months from now, we want to know what the level of interest is in IP.Board 4.x! As you know, we've already expanded our IP.Board categories to support the 4.x series content but this doesn't give us much information in the way of gauging interest. Feel free to explain in a response why you are, or are not, upgrading to 4.x. Would you like to see WebFlake upgrade to 4.x? How do you, the community, feel about WebFlake upgrading our site to IP.Board 4.x? Please consider the impact 4.x will have, positively or negatively, on the community regardless of your own personal feelings toward the 4.x series. We're curious how many users would support WebFlake upgrading to 4.x sooner rather than later, or how many of our users would prefer us to stick with our current 3.4.6 edition. Were you aware IPS intends to drop support for the 3.x series? Another topic we've been discussing, is whether or not the community is generally aware that IPS intends to cease any and all support for the IP.Board 3.x series as of January 2016. Naturally, they intend to offer security fixes until April of 2016 but beyond that, support and content will cease to exist. We figure that this may greatly impact our community's desire to upgrade their own projects to 4.x and it may even impact how they feel about WebFlake's current stance of sticking with 3.4.6. For a bit of clarity (and because most of you know by now), I fully support WebFlake transitioning to IP.Board 4.x as early as this month. There has been some concern that many of our members would disapprove of WebFlake upgrading to 4.x. Speaking on behalf of myself only, I don't see why anyone would feel that way so if there is anyone out there who does, please enlighten us in a response. Note: WebFlake upgrading to 4.x does not mean we will drop support for 3.4.x. We will continue to offer content for and support the 3.4.x series. If WebFlake does not upgrade to 4.x, I fail to see the reason to continue supporting 4.x as using dated software not only limits our personal experience with the product but it would look foolish. Please be sure to cast your vote for all three questions. We also welcome discussion and feedback!

  2. Hello all, I'd just like to thank the WebFlake team and the members of this community for this opportunity. It'll be fun to help out and get to know everyone better. Davlin talks to me about the site all the time, so I suppose it's just a technicality that I'm part of the family now.

  3. Congrats on the promotions! I will try my best to bring some truly unique "no other site has it" content to WF. I will focus on Wordpress/ HTML/CSS/GFX. But you will also see some IPB & XenForo content from me time to time. Regards, Sweden

  4. With IPS dropping support on the 3.x series you probably should upgrade WF within a month max. Looking at the applications/hooks that we use now are already there on IPB4 if not even better & smoother ones. And there are a lot of them already coming along with the core. Go for it.

  5. i had changed to xenforo and began to dislike it, sorta messed up my db in the conversion and then when i decided to go back to ip board, i went head first at 4.x.x since it's rc days, sure it has it's issues, but it's in rapid production and released at this stage, it will have many versions in it's early days to patch up loose ends in the new core, but 3.x.x went through the same if not more issues. Once skins and mods get released, they will go into rapid production also, but you shoudl always start off with the default skin anyways.

  6. HAha yeah you can! I made my bug tracker similar to IPB + I made a whole review / comment system for my specific community.

  7. I wholeheartedly agree but I do want to note that designing a custom theme would take time. We would likely need to work with the default theme, edit the color scheme, and make other adjustments to our liking. Not the worst thing in the world as I personally find the default theme aesthetically pleasing. We've been working on a test board in the background, doing a dry run upgrade. Essentially, I'd like to upgrade a dummy copy of WebFlake to the latest copy (4.0.5.1), install all necessary or desired applications and plugins, ensure smooth functionality and then perform a live upgrade with a backup on hand just in case. Virtually every hook/app we use now is available in some form or another for IPS4; or at least better alternatives. We certainly can't put our future on hold for a few apps/hooks that may or may not be upgraded for 4.x either. I also want to mention, for clarification purposes, that I'm of the opinion that the longer we wait to upgrade, the worse off we'll be. It'll leave us hand-tied with simple daily tasks as we try to get used to the new mechanics of IPS4 and provide support for our users as well; it'd be an awful lot of work. I'd much rather be upgraded in the coming week or two, giving us ample time to work on our site, make needed adjustments, and then prep for the influx of users we're sure to get when 3.4.x support is officially dropped by IPS. Of the votes cast thus far, 33% of them had no idea 3.4.x support was being dropped by IPS. That means a lot of folks are going to be upgrading last-minute, so the better prepared we are, the better off we are.

  9. i have to disagree also, why? ipb 4 is cleaner, fully responsive and mobile friendly. The core is more secure and the reason themes aren't out is the fact the filesystem was been tinkered with and devs have been holding on till it was changed. Most of the plugins will be the same issue, but there are lots out there already. The pages system and the navigation system is 100 times better in 4 You can even make your own tracker system and portal in the new pages, and that shows a lot. the ACP is good, and the theme manager and custom css options in 4 are brilliant. adding pages and plugins to the navigation and picking default page is much easier now also. my 5c worth!!

  10. Indeed. Might as well transition now so that way when new IPS4 versions come out, you'll be able to upgrade easier since you'll be running IPB4 anyways. It's a pain to upgrade from 3.4 to 4 already the way it is =/ I went through it already, but it was irritating (my opinion).

  12. I would love WF to upgrade to IPB4. But like mentioned above, you really should have a theme ready for the upgrade, it's a plus on the side. Also take in mind that IPS "final" version of IPB4 is for me still in beta. As they have loads of bugs and each release still comes with tons and tons of bugs, that really has messed up some high traffic sites but on the other site there are sites that has done the upgrade and work if not even better than before! So for me it's a Yes do the upgrade. I've been studying and exploring IPB4 since pre-beta and I will be here to help out if you ever need anything. A side note: Upgrading to IPB4 will bring new visitors as always, new things attracts new people.
