IPB is the best paid forum script. It's updates are released more frequently then the others and security updates are issued whenever necessary, unlike vB or xF.3 points

For many years, I was a huge fan of xenForo -- granted, during that time period, XF was actually being developed on a fairly consistent basis. After gambling and introducing myself to IPB about 2 years ago, I've been obsessed with it. It offers all of the same features as XF (notably profiles, comments, real-time updates, etc).. while offering a far more intuitive ACP and the best security measures available (as alluded to by Justin). vBulletin is more of a "corporate" software. It is bare-bone software with a few desirable features, but hardly on the same level as IPB.2 points

There are plenty of hosts available but, before you buy, do some research. If the host doesn't have a long proven track record, then go somewhere else. Remember, it's more about quality of service then the empty promises they make.2 points

IPB is not that much heavy. All you need is a well optimized server. Most community suites doesn't practically work well on shared servers. So get yourself a VPS or a Dedicated Server. Checkout http://www.7skyhost.com I'm a IPB-only user and I don't see any single reason why should I even care about any other community suite software... So in short, I recommend IPB Thanks...2 points

Users who have the hook installed with their IPB 3.4.x package, may have noticed an oddity with their View New Content page (something similar to the image below): If you are experiencing this issue, it is caused by the aforementioned hook. You'll need to make one small edit and you'll be all set. Navigate to: <Your IPB Root>/Hooks/tbGfSkinSearch_xxxxx.php [*]The "xxxxx" substitutes the string of random characters attached to your file. Find this line: $data['last_poster'] = $data['last_poster_id'] ? IPSMember::makeProfileLink( TBGroupFormat::makeNameFormatted( $data, $data['last_poster_name'], $data['last_poster_group'], 'last_poster_id' ), $data['last_poster_id'], $data['seo_last_name'] ) : $this->settings['guest_name_pre'] . $data['last_poster_name'] . $this->settings['guest_name_suf']; ... and replace it with this: /*$data['last_poster'] = $data['last_poster_id'] ? IPSMember::makeProfileLink( TBGroupFormat::makeNameFormatted( $data, $data['last_poster_name'], $data['last_poster_group'], 'last_poster_id' ), $data['last_poster_id'], $data['seo_last_name'] ) : $this->settings['guest_name_pre'] . $data['last_poster_name'] . $this->settings['guest_name_suf'];*/ Save your edit, and refresh your page -- fixed! I strongly recommend downloading a copy of the file, making the edit, and then re-uploading it to avoid any issues with the upload. Editing the file inside of FTP programs such as Filezilla is not always efficient. [*]Credits to Paradiizee for working with me to find a fix for this. Be sure to thank him! [*]Please Note: This is only a temporary fix until the hook's original author makes the appropriate updates for full 3.4.x support.1 point

Go to your ACP > Look & Feel > Manage Skin Sets & Templates > your skin > boardindexTemplateFindi this: and add BEFORE or AFTER: Edit "title" and "html message here" to whatever you want. You can add images, html code, ads or basically whatever you need.1 point

Hello everyone, Welcome to WebFlake. Our team has worked hard to get everything done and this is the result. Alot of features may still be in development and will be added later, but for now what needs to work, works. We hope you all like it and start filling the site with interesting information, discussions and more. The whole staff team is looking forward to see this site bloom into something amazing. Former Donators Please send me a Personal Message with your paypal email in it. You will get more details later. I will probably handle all the donator requests MONDAY (Tomorrow) and answer all of you with more details. For now there is no content added yet so it does not make a real difference. Please enjoy the site and be patient. Downloads As you can see, everything is gone. We still have the old ForumCore backup though, so we can get everything back. I've tried to figure this out from time to time, but I need to know how to make the forum notify users when another user post on there topic or replies to a topic they posted on. Is this possible?1 point

Absolutely! If you need any assistance with GoDaddy, be sure to let me know. I'll do what I can to walk you through it.1 point

Integrated apps are a nuisance - it can cause a number of issues with core upgrades, so IPB's approach is pure genius really. Glad we could be of some assistance!1 point

I would like to note that I didn't write this guide myself again, but I am glad you are all finding it useful.1 point

Pro tip: You may already own a domain, however, if you head over to GoDaddy and purchase a low-tier DNS (such as a .us or .info), you can earn a free $50 credit for Bing/Facebook (each). Low-end domain extensions are generally very cheap (something like $2, if that). You can even use this code (CJCFWD35F) at checkout for 35% off. (Yep, I have cool codes like that.) Essentially, not only will you own an extra domain with your chosen name, but you'll have some free credits to use!1 point

ipb is good but hooks sucks,vb has a larger community that develops alot of really nice hooks.i prefer ipb just for my staff as its easier for them but i hate the fact that blog and prefixes are a add-on in ipb,i still dont get why they do that.1 point

I love vBulletin to be honest. It may not be for everyone however because the admin panel can be scary to some. I use it because it offers many options for Steam Integration and also has an addon to make a custom serves page so users can view and connect to your servers. I believe that all in all however IPB is the better forum software because it is constantly being updated and being cared for.1 point

I have recently seen a community leave IPB (was a mess), and changed their system to xenforo. Why? I don't know.. But now I have noticed a better performance in that site. I'm a IPB fan, but if you need the change.. go for XF, vB could be a wrong idea.1 point

As I posted in another thread... I don't have much personal experience in the way of offshore hosting or any of the goofy resellers that have been cropping up lately, but I can say I've been a longtime customer of GoDaddy without any issues. I have about seven different domains, all using a variety of nulled content, and even rent a dedicated server from them that runs emulation software. Most of the agents can be inquisitive, but it's more harmless curiosity than anything. You can purchase their Economy shared hosting package, for $5.99/mo.. which includes: [*]24/7 tech support [*]99.99% uptime [*]Unlimited bandwidth [*]100 GB space [*]10 MySQL databases [*]100 free email addresses [*]$50 credit for Bing/Facebook Ads (each) [*]One-click application installation (WordPress, Joomla, phpBB, SMF, MyBB, MediaWiki, etc) Right now.. you can take their promo offer which is $2.99/mo.. and everything I listed above, simply isn't matched by offshore hosts or any of the resellers posting in this thread. There is always a risk involved with onshore hosting, but GoDaddy receives a lot of flak for small business complications from years ago.. They take care of their customers, offer quality support/hardware for unbelievably affordable prices, and turn a blind eye when needed. Call me a "fanboi", but I have yet to be disappointed by their service. If you spend cheap, expect cheap.1 point
