Iphone 4s vs 5

I would chose an iPhone 4, 4s, 5 or 5s over any other phone, let alone Andriod. If i had to get a phone other than iPhone, I'd probably get the Sony Xperia.

Samsung phones are better than apple. Samsung is now the biggest mobile phone retailer. They overtook apple in sales.

Mainly because Samsung phones are cheaper than iPhones, and a lot of people don't have the money to spend £500-£600 on a Phone. I personally think the iPhones are worth every penny.

The iPhones smash so easily, Granted this has improved in recent products being developed by apple. Most people have their phones on a contract which eliminates the cost worry.

Eliminates the cost worry?

Not really, you still have to pay the upfront cost for your phone, and then you're stuck in a contact of a minimum of £20 a month, for 2 years.

So even if you only had to pay £100 up front for the phone, and then £480 (£20 x 48 months = £480) = £580.

So you'd still have the cost worry, just spread out over 2 years.

Also, all smart phones are easy to brake. Only the old nokia's with snake that caused earthquakes worldwide wouldn't break. Whoever blames their phone for breaking when they drop it without having a case is just an idiot.

Not all contacts require you to pay a upfront cost. Yes, more people can afford £20 a month instead of £500 upfront.

Not at all, I have dropped my iPhone 4S a lot of times - Not smashed at all.

And this has been on concrete and laminate flooring, etc. The only thing which annoyingly scratched the screen is when i dropped it on my desk, but that was on the corner and i pushed down on it when catching it.

I'd be surprised if you can find an iPhone when you don't have to pay an upfront fee for the phone.

Also, that then brings into the concern of having to be locked into a 2 year contract as it's a big commitment to make for such a long period of time.

Android.

In all seriousness, I think the 4S is better if you're looking for something like the 5 but cheaper, and it isn't something people still don't have (yet), so you won't be "out dated" or whatever. I personally like the 5S for obvious reasons though, it has an amazing design, and it runs much more smoothly than the 4S. Ever thought about the 5C?

Really? Everyone I know with an iPhone has managed to completely demolish their phone within weeks of getting it. My father recently dropped his iPhone 4 in our basement and it shattered the rear but the front is intact. My sister has dropped her iPhone on a rug floor and it has shattered on MANY occasions. She has been paying about $40 for new glass and another $40 to have it installed every time, and at this point she could probably by the new iPhone with the amount of money she has invested in repairing her phone over the past six months or so.

I was actually able to get my sister, mother, father, and grandmother, all iPhone 4's without paying a penny for activation fee or the phone its self. All we have to pay is our monthly bill. We currently have Verizon Wireless and they have always had iPhones for dirt cheap, if not free. A two-year contract really is a big commitment, which I hate. However, we have been let loose of many other two-year contracts from companies varies companies including TMobile granted we provide a valid reason. We have never had a major hassle with requesting early termination and they have never charged us for it and let us keep our numbers when we switched companies. In addition, they also forgave our bills as an apology to the disruptive service.

^^^ Must have had some steep falls because I still have my old 4 and it's still in perfect condition

I upgraded to the 5C and gave my little brother my old 4S which is still in basically new condition after 3 years. People just need to stop being so clumsy with their phones and put a case on them.

To this day I still don't see how people shatter their screens, to me it's impossible but then again I don't drop my phones because I'm OCD about my phone because I know buying another one right after buying the first is just a no no.

I purchased a 16GB space grey iPhone 5s for Verizon on launch day and sold it back to the same store for a Samsung Galaxy Note 3. The 5s's fingerprint reader started being really buggy after a while and I'd have to reset my fingerprint every couple days. I actually made money off the deal because I used another line's upgrade on my contract and just paid the $199 2 year contract price and I was given $347 for the phone. Haven't had any issues with the Note 3 since I got it and it's nice to be back on Android. I was skeptical when crossing over to the world of iPhones, and personally I prefer Android over it. Better experience in my opinion. I don't feel like I'm in a sterile insane asylum as I do with Apple products.

I don't recommend the 5s because of my experience, but my friend's 5 was working fine before he also got his Note 3. So if you have to pick between Apple products, the 5 is probably the most sturdy. But if you have an option, go Android.

If you have the money.... better go with the iPhone 5s.

They don't sell the iPhone 5 anymore, at least here in the US. So if money is short, better the the 4s.

Just saying, if you are careless enough with your phone to drop it all the time, you may not deserve nor need a phone. And the iPhone 4S and below have glass backs so yes, they shatter easily. However, the 5 has a strong metal back and the 5S has an even strong metal backing. They are especially more drop proof than the plastic backed Androids.

Accourding to latintimes.com ::

In a Mashable test, the iPhone 5 was dropped from different heights - pocket height, shoulder height, ear height and from about six feet above a cobblestoned road.

"The iPhone 5 survived every time with no cracks in the display," Pete Pachal of Mashable said. "Even from the highest position, the iPhone only had cosmetic - although very noticeable - damage to the edges."

In tests conducted by iFixYouri, the iPhone 5 did fairly well.

When it was dropped from the lap, the tester said it phone "passed with flying colors." If you happen to drop the phone when you go to put in your pocket, "no problem... it survives that drop too." From the knee, waist and chest heights, the phone still worked with no noticeable damage. From shoulder height, "the frame did bend a bit."

And the 4S ::

So with the iPhone 4S, there's a different story.

According to a test done by UnitediPhoneRepair, "it took only 2 drops to damage iPhone 4."

"Though we are not sure if you would ever end up dropping your iPhone from that height and if it would also hit the ground face down," the site said in a blog post.

From shoulder height on to the concrete, the 4S survived. However, when dropped facedown, the screen shattered.

According to Gizmodo, the iPhone 4S is similar to its predecessor.

"The iPhone 4 has never been lauded for the durability of its glass panels," they wrote. "The iPhone 4S is no different. While the chemically-strengthened front screen could survive a tumble from waist and shoulder level, the back panel shattered instantly. And when dropped face down from waist level, the front screen exploded into pieces."

I've had an iPhone since 2009, my very first iPhone the 3g. I then upgraded from the 3g to the 3gs, then from the 3gs to the 4s, 5, 5s. I have only ever smashed my iPhone once, which was my iPhone 5 while skating. Other than that, I haven't ever had a problem with smashing my iPhone, but I keep really good care of my own items. I don't like using screen protectors, and ideally didn't want a case, but i've got a clear rubber/jelly case that just sits around the edges and back of the iPhone as a bumper which really does help...

@Jrock, both me, my dad and my brother have an iPhone 5s. Me and my brother haven't had any problems with the finger print scanner however my dad has although he has got chubby fingers so the button isn't big enough to scan the full surface area so occasionally has to relocate his finger on the scanner.
