Waiting 30 seconds to download is obnoxious. Might also want to limit the number of downloads per day, or make a point system for them 5 posts = 1 download, whatever. Might incentive users to post more...

Oops, totally didn't mean to post this here... Mind moving it for me?

The waiting period is there to prevent bot downloads, common sense really.

We already have a download cap of 15 downloads per day for regular users (only Subscribers and Donators are unlimited). Lowering that cap or placing a post requirement only encourages spam (we've tried and tested this before).

Elaborating on what @Davlin said, basically you can set a bot to download all the content from one particualar page, and move on to the next. Unless you were running multiple proxies and multiple bots to make your server / computer explode, this method is a pretty sure-fire way to stop leechers.

Ok, fair enough.

How exactly is a waiting period going to stop bots? I can configure a bot to just wait for the 30 seconds to pass?

Hey, i've lowered it to 10 seconds a day or two ago. 30 Seconds was indeed a bit high. It was mostly to balance out load on our server.
This idea was used on the site and has earned you the Feather of Feedback. Thanks!
