Validation Emails

Guest Forum

Question

Hotmail and AOL users seem to not be getting their verification/validation emails. Is there a fix? Thinking about just disabling email validation for now, but I'm worried about spammers.

How would one go about setting something such as that up? Must it be linked through IPB as well?

There is a setting inside IPB to use Mandrill for sending mails. It is a case of registering an account with http://mandrill.com/ and then putting the smtp credentials that mandrill gives you into your IPB mail settings.

If you're on shared hosting, try setting your forum to use SMTP and get the credentials and connection info from your host if you're unsure of what they are.

No luck.

I used to get this issue a lot, In the end i set up the Mandrill mail account to handle the forums e-mails and since then everything seems to go through without an issue.

Just set it up and it works perfectly! Thanks guys!

But wait, this free plan has a max limit when it comes to sending emails. This isn't going to work. Maybe for now.

The free plan is limited to 12000 emails a month,The hourly limit will get higher and higher with every email you send (assuming it is not marked as spam). For example when i set it up my hourly limit was 25, After sending 3 emails my hourly limit went to 108 And every time i have sent more than a couple of e-mails in an hour it has gone up.

As long as the majority of your e-mails get through to people the limit goes up very quickly and should not be an issue.

Even if you do hit the hourly limit, it will simply send through anything remaining in the next hour.

Great news! Thanks Franky!
