Feedback Foreign Downloads

May I ask, what is the point of adding downloads with NO English description at all?

I am guessing the download is polish with the [PL] in title and some of the words... well is this community

suddenly all polish? I thought there was a rule to use English only? well how come that doesnt count

for downloads too? I understand the person wants to put his download here but shouldnt it be translated

into English also for other people to fully understand what the download is it?

Just saying. Anyways here is the link:

It's a translation pack, and they're also in their native language on the IPS Marketplace as well.

Translation packs are permitted, and considering WebFlake's broad range of ethnic groups within the community, it's a perfectly reasonable addition.

The lack of continuity on other forums, including the IPS forum, shouldn't effect how WF is run or allowing foreign language posting.

I don't make the rules (with the exception of a few) - I just enforce them.

Although I don't see the problem with it, personally. It's a language pack, and it's self-explanatory. All language pack names are preceded by [**] (the ** being the language identifier), and there are no lengthy instructions included with it. If it were say.. a hook, or a full-fledged application, then I'd absolutely agree that it cannot be posted in any language other than English. I'd prefer people to speak English in America, but it doesn't mean I want the Taco Bell chain to go belly-up.

In short, it's really a trivial matter.

Im not saying we have shouldnt have it or that we shouldnt cater for the ethnic groups within the community. All I am saying is that with the

rules stating that its an English speaking only site/forum then shouldnt the descriptions at least be so too. It can be in a foreign language

too but surely English should also be added?

I fail to see why redundancy is needed for a file's description. If it's in a foreign language, it should be fairly evident that it isn't intended for English-speaking users. When you walk into a Chinese restaurant, do you expect everything to be in English?

Yes and I do. Everything is written in both English and Chinese.

I wasn't referring to the menu, per say. Are they expected to rename General Sao's Chicken to General Bob's Chicken? Are they expected to speak English in every area of the restaurant, particularly areas you may overhear?

No matter the case, it's an awfully, awfully trivial matter. The only items that are in a foreign language are language packs. If a user finds an extensive description written in a foreign language, they're free to report it. But honestly, as I mentioned before, a user shouldn't feel obligated to translate the description when they're just copy/pasting what is on the IPS Marketplace. Yes, I am aware that this isn't IPS' site, but we serve the same general audience, so this idea that we somehow need to deviate from that for whatever reason, is just nuts.

Having said that, I still say it's not a big deal and sounds more like an outlet to complain 'just because'. If Phun or Para believe this is a needed change, I'm sure they'll make the adjustment. I have no interest in replying further because clearly, this will just go on forever.

  • 2 weeks later...

Its actually customary these days to not only have multilingual menus but also staff that can speak English.

Anyways, this doesnt have to over the top, I just suggested we should use the downloads to have English as the priority language

and then anything else AFTER the English has been wrote. Simple as that :)
