We upgraded from vb4 to vb5 stupidest thing ever

Only bugs bugs bugs. Our database got corrupted!

Our plugins the newer ones never worked correctly.

Also the whole registration got messed up!

So no more vb for me. In the past it was a great forum but now! you can get way better software

My opinion is, their downhill spiral occured when the legal entity was purchased by a new majority stakeholder (aka internet brands). The said company, SOP seems to be purchase and buy out any and small internet brands and flip them for a profit if possible; doesnt seem to be working for them hence vB. Just an an opinion...

RIP VBulletin. A forum I used to use was bought out by them, and it completely stagnated afterwards.

vB was good (almost great) back in the 3.8.x era, the 4.2.x version where fine but it went downhill, fast, after that.

Selling it to someone who clearly doesn't have a clue about forum software was not good, but at least we got XF now which I run on a few sites.

I still remember good old VB 3.x version ... some good memories.

They just got greedy and payed the price.

IPS, imo, wanted to copy/paste their greed, some new pricing during 2010-2015 period was introduced comparing vB as model and with theirs forum shills they did vB comparison defending IPS, but at the end IPS had better product and managed to survive and get to the top, althou XF is no1 atm from what I was reading last and this year.

Btw is vB 3.x version still active at all ? You still need to pay for 3.x version ?

  • 2 weeks later...

Most forum software is struggling nowadays as its much easier and less hassle to set up a facebook group :(, they still have their uses though.

vBulletin in my opinion is too much bloat and runs really slow on my servers, I have fairly decent spec servers too.
