Upgrade to 4.x Latest

Hello, 

 

I currently have a 3.4.9 community. I added to it the other apps that didn't come with it (blogs, downloads, gallery, content) and I got them from another site.  My users seem to prefer 4.x and I want to do the upgrade but this is my first time going from 3.x to the latest IPS suite version If I download @RoSiCkY's latest IPS version would all I have to do is overwrite the files and thats it or is there any complex process?

I just remembered this topic lol. It's been working great.  I actually had uninstalled all hooks, themes and apps then overwrote the files and ran the upgrader. Everything worked fine.

1. Backup your database (Do this via PhpMyAdmin if possible) just incase anything fails you have a backup
2. Create a folder on your server (FTP) called _345
   -IMPORTANT- Before anything
   Make sure you set the default IPB theme and disable all hooks
   (AdminCP > System > Manage hooks (left side) )
   Once done continue
3. Move all folders except conf_clobal.php favicon.ico and folder uploads in _345
4. Upload the content of IPB4 zipfile. (Make sure you unzip and upload all folders and structure)
5. Once all is updated visit yoursite.com/admin/upgrade
6. Follow onscreen instructions
7. Once completed you can install new themes (I think you can upgrade them but I always play it safe and install new ones)

 

 

 

MYPHPADMIN

 

1. Open PhpMyAdmin
2. Click on the database you want to backup (if you have several)
3. This should show you the "structure" of the database
4. Top bar should say "Export"
5. Select Custom
6. Select All
7. I normally apply a compression of .zip or .gzipped (if your on windows use Zipped)
8. Find Function to use when dumping data
9. Set REPLACE (Reason for this is that if i had a DB and instead of get errors with insert, it will replace the value instead of try insert it)
10. Go and its all saved.

if you delete all old file of ipb 3.4.9 how the update found old file to update .... plz if you don't know don't come send help without knowledge ...

- backup database and ftp file of 3.4.9 on your computer
- desactivate all plugins, apps and theme
-  send ips 4.1.17.1 (lucas version is more update of rocksiky) file in FTP exept "conf_clobal.php" and erase file
- launch the process update

It don't update the files or folders it updates the database the files and folders get overwritten (I.E GONE/DELETED), as long as you have the uploads folder and the config file left then you can perform a update like he said, And he didn't say to delete he said rename the folder so to drag and drop it to a new folder is easier then deleting and re-uploading if needed, So as for knowledge maybe you should go get some yourself before you keep throwing your little digs at people

if i post is because in the original post before he edit it ! he have advice to remove file, is easy now to talk after he edit original message ... next time i take a capture just for fun and for avoid this damn edit and laf in my turn of this moron

Just now like I edited my post with just the enter key pressed it says edited by, I can't see that on his post

How i did the upgrade

Before doing the things i describe underneath make sure to backup the whole forum and database.
Ths way you can always go back to how it was.

on IPB 3.4.x

• Put forum in maintenance mode
• Remove all themes that are not the default
• Remove all plugins that are not invision
• Remove all apps that are not from invision
• Check if all upload paths are correct in your forum config
• Then I rebuild al my caches and removed orphaned and rebuild all attachments also I did topic and comment recounts
• You could finish up your tasks with putting your board into dev mode
• If your board is in dev mode you get red messages just complete those
• after finishing up that put board in normal mode
• Check everything once again before performing the next steps

What to do in FTP or filemanager on cpanle/plesk or any other hosting panel

• Remove all directories where your forum is installed in but keep
  • public
  • uploads
    • these are directories that contains your pip member ranks, badges for underneath admins or mods and it contains uploads for profile pictures or forum attachments.
• Remove all files in root of your installation but conf_global.php the installer needs this file to know your database configuration
• If you are using a favicon keep that also in the directory
• Also if you are using verification files for webmaster tools in your directory keep them also
• If you are using seo friendly urls keep the htaccess file also in the directory
• If you have done this all you can proceed uploading invision 4.1.17.1 files and unpack them.

Now lets install 4.1.17.1

• it will ask you how people need to login into your new forum
• it will ask you wat to do with friends on 3.4.x 
  • the installer will ask you to convert friends to folllowers because friends are now named followers in the new version
• let's install
