Advertisements on WebFlake are how we keep the website online. We do not charge for our services while we still pay out of pocket to keep the site online. We are also survived by our donations which are still minimal and we still have to pay out of pocket. If you would like to support us to help remove ads, you can make a donation to the site. Clearly you are already using ad blocker, so it seems like this doesn't even really change your experience here.

The ads displayed on WebFlake are non-intrusive, silent, and only displayed to generate partial revenue for continued upkeep. It takes some nerve to publicly belittle our choice in using them altogether.

If you have a complaint about a specific advert on WebFlake, here is what we need in order to (potentially) get it fixed:

  • Most important: Contact us by clicking the Contact Us link at the top of the page (in the main menu) and be sure to select "Bad Advertisement" from the available selections on the left. This will automatically direct your message to the appropriate department.
  • Take a screenshot of the ad and include a link to it in your message.
  • Let us know your location on the site (simply copy/paste the URL of the page that displays the ad), since different ad networks will service different areas.
  • Tell us the URL the ad is serving from. For non-flash ads, all this takes is right-clicking the ad, selecting "Copy Image Location" and pasting the URL into your message. For Flash ads, this is a little more difficult. With Firefox, you can do this by going into Tools > Page Info, then clicking the "Media" tab. Look for anything that says "Embed" on the right (those are the Flash files), and right click on the URL and select "copy" (for Chrome, simply use Inspect Element). Then paste that link into the email. Safari users meanwhile, can just open the Activity Window, expand everything, and screenshot that.

Please do NOT post ad reports on the forums. We won't get to them as quickly, and on the off-chance you're reporting an ad with spyware in it, we don't want it linked all over the forums. Do NOT report ads just because you do not like seeing them, don't like the brand, or for any otherwise petty rationale.

Some of examples of ads we don't want to see here:

  • Flashing, jiggling, or otherwise seizure-inducing ads.
  • Ads that play sound on a page-load.
  • Any ad banner that asks you to download or install something. WebFlake will never ask you to install something that you didn't specifically select from our Downloads database.
  • "Adult" content.

I personally have never seen a problem for sites using this type of things, a website like this is not the best way to go in terms of earning money because they always have to worry about keeping up-to-date with content that people are using or wanting to find and download so it would be hard for them to find that content and taking the time to do so. In this case, the ad system they have going on is not a problem, and I can understand them wanting to put a lot of ads in many places (if that was the case at least, they obviously do not do that), however, YouTube for example is ridiculous because they get a lot of revenue by itself with their parent company - Google, managing it.

I personally have my Adblock system off for the entire domain of this site as I know it helps, even a little so I really don't see why you're having a fuss about a few little ads compared to what sites like YouTube has.
