Feedback Suggestion about reminder language

Hi -

I would like to suggest that you reconsider the language you use in the inactive email notification that you send.  It is extemely offensive.

Perhaps English is not your native language but to accuse someone of being a leach is extremely vulgar and inflammatory.  The word carries a connation of immoral depravity.

Submitted.

It is a perfect word for around 90% of this community... Out of 970 pages of member 814 of those member have 0 posts. If you come here just for the resources and give nothing back what do you think you are doing?

Here is the official definition for leech..

a person who extorts profit from or sponges on others.

habitually exploit or rely on.

I understand this will happen in every community but there should be a little giving back.

Therefor leech is the perfect word to use in this context.

Good day! I'm sorry you felt insulted by our reminder e-mail but allow me to elaborate. This is the e-mail we send out:

Hello, Phun !

You haven't made a post on WebFlake for quite a while now and we were wondering why!

We aim to satisfy everyone with the resources we provide and we can only hope that the people that visit us on a regular basis will help us grow by, for example, posting tutorials, engaging with the community and spreading their knowledge to our users.

Leeching is a thing we don't appreciate and since you have not been active on WebFlake, we assume you're just there for our downloads. Which is a good thing, but please also help our site grow. Try interacting with other members!

If you are not going to or planning on being active any time soon, your account will be removed.

If you don't remember your password, you can request it here: (link to lost password will be here)

See you soon on WebFlake,
- WebFlake Staff Team

We're not accusing anyone of being a leach. We merely assume that after a month of no posts you're just here to profit from us by downloading files and not contributing anything or taking part in our community's discussions. Which is what, in the online world, they call being a leecher.

We've tolerated this for a very long time, but we would like to see our activity go up and leeching (Downloading our files without taking part in our community) go down.

Have a nice day!

It's ironic that before considering the context in which the term "leech" is used, WebFlake is accused of being "inflammatory". How amusing.

I said my part, paid my dues. Now I reap the rewards, I poke my head in every now and again, but I'm not exactly bussling with conversation. Though I'm certainly not interested in having my account deleted. I do have a certain history here. ;)

But you must consider i dont post as much and i did indeed donate so it wouldent be fair for my account to get terminated even tho i did donate.

Users who "don't post as much" but happily snatch up swaths of content and accept free support are precisely the kind of users that will forever be limited here. Sure, you may not have much to offer in the way of content or even support, but we're not a community that is hyper-focused on helping aspiring webmasters who know next to nothing about what they are doing. If we can see you're not putting any effort into your own dilemmas, most of those topics will sit. As such, if you're a competent webmaster you should have no trouble being active here.

As for your donation, while it's quite appreciated it will not guarantee you access to your account. +Donators even, are still liable for their actions and can be banned for violations of our guidelines. Why should an inactive user who donated in the past be an exception? If you lose access to your account due to inactivty, simply create another if you wish to rejoin the community. You have no more perks or access now than you do any other member (with perhaps the exception of having fulfilled post requirements).
