ryanjkita 28
I know I made a topic not too long ago about gaming laptops. But out of curiosity I thought I might ask for people's input about building your own gaming desktop PC. If I did, it would be my first one. Any good resources, articles, or information you could provide to do it properly, efficiently and such? I am curious as to the process and what goes into it but I know googling online you can find some articles that may teach you how to do it, but not always the "Best" way or with improper practices or needless information. Any input would be much appreciated!
Luke 13
I watched a few youtube tutorials before I built my Hackintosh, it's relatively simple. That's the best advice I can give, considering there are thousands of them out there. NCIX has some pretty good ones.
Manipura 4
What is your price range? Doesn't seem like a pressing matter... only advice Over do it, Get top notch graphics, ram, hdd space, and cooling system. I'd advise waiting a little bit though if you can. I Say that because this is releasing before 2015 http://www.bit-tech.net/news/hardware/2014/05/01/seagate-10tb/1 My Thoughts, partition the hard drive 4 ways boot Linux, Mac & Windows with 1/4 to spare as backup. I advise you do similar could last you a VERY long time.

Only reason I would get it is for some producing software that is only made for Macs. But as for the drives, tbh I don't think I would need that much space. While I can fill up harddrives quite a bit I don't think I would really fill up multiple TBs worth of content. Atleast not right now anyways. But i think you for your advice nonetheless. Any advice on specific graphics cards, CPUs, etc?
Luke 13
OS X can only run on supported hardware. Not to mention it's not natively supported on PC hardware anyways. Apple has their own boot loader so it needs to be emulated.. there are various tools to do this. I've heard the GTX 660 TI is a decent card, also I would use windows 8.1 with the classic shell for the start menu.. people disregard it but it's got a pretty fair performance improvement. I would go for an Intel CPU. Edited May 27, 2014 by Luke
Craigyy 9
The hardware that I'd recommend is all down to the very top of your budget, without a budget you're going to end up with a very unbalanced built. Also, what games are you planning on playing? What else will you want with the build: Mouse Keyboard OS Monitor Anything else If you can get back to me I'll give you a build to suit your needs.

Also, what games are you planning on playing? What else will you want with the build: Mouse Keyboard OS Monitor Anything else If you can get back to me I'll give you a build to suit your needs. Well budget wise I really have no set budget lol I would probably say 1,000 USD roughly? Games: The Elder Scrolls (Oblivion, Skyrim, etc), Star Wars: The Old Republic (MMO), Fable series, Terraria, Diablo 3, Portal games, Sims 2 & 3 (sims 3 really suffers on low end hardware due to coding), Grand Theft Auto games, etc etc. Mouse, I want just a decent wireless one, doesnt need to have 8 billion buttons either (i know some PC gamers love those kinds, i find them rather blech). Keyboard, wired or wireless but needs to be backlit. I am a night owl and dont like a lot of lights on so having a backlit keyboard is a must. My OS I plan on probably using Windows 7. Maybe dualboot 7 and 8.1 but I try to avoid 8. Too many conflicts with old games for my tastes. Monitor: Just one with a nice display. I currently use my HD Tv thru HDMI on my current laptop because the screen doesnt have as nice of color to it. When I get a desktop I want the quality and colors to be similar to my HD Tv. I also need it to be powerhoused enough to be running some programs (sometimes many all at once). Such as Adobe Audition, Photoshop, Web browsers, Audacity, and some video editing softwares. I do a lot with music and video editing and sometimes have a lot of applications open at once. And on my budget I am not expecting like Ultra settings but I would atleast like them to be mid to high. Tired of gaming on piece of crap rigs and on lowest of low settings. Edited May 30, 2014 by ryanjkita
hermit101 17
i picked some parts on partpicker http://pcpartpicker.com/p/bKfXnQ takes you over the $1000 budget ($1395 with mail in rebate etc) but you could knock the price down on the case for a cheap and nasty one , also if you dont plan to overclock at all you could sacrifice the h100i for a evo 212 air cooler and the platinum 80+ certified psu for a cheaper bronze, also a budget mouse and budget backlit keyboard along with changing the 240 evo ssd to a 120 evo would likely take you down to $1000ish Edited May 30, 2014 by hermit101
