  1. Hmm, if it's purely looks and option/feature wise you won't miss something from Xenforo -> Wordpress I'd see no reason to stay at XenForo, it is far behind in many aspects, although the codebase is clean, OOP and easily editable, something that is constantly trying to escape the grasp of WP now a days. As others have points, WP has a much much bigger amount of resources readily available. I myself would pick IPB though, similar amount of resources, arguably the best PHP framework, OOP AF and it incorporates website <-> forum features best of all CMS projects that I know of. Did not submit a vote, though.
  2. Welcome mate! I am an engineer sound, electrical, software, coding in C/C++ would be my main. I currently work as a PHP programmer IRL, so I can relate to the "opennes" of PHP when someone comes from a much more proper of a language. My advice is to negate most of the built-in stuff and try to just go C style, if that's feasible in your case. I had a hard time with my bosses for doing that although. ^_^ WebFlake is a great community and the staff is working to make it better, hope you enjoy your time here! I myself love to spend more time but work requires otherwise. ?
  3. Honestly, BMW, I just adore the brand since I was a child. Audi's badass too, but i'm more familiar with BMW as well.
  4. As a software engineer tightly bucking with Google, Android will always be my first choice for personal use. However, the difference is quite apparent - At iOS the users are paying a premium for a seemingly flawless system that is not hogged with bloatware, where the opposite stands for Android - if the user is not careful enough or they lack the know-how in programming. It's not that iOS is not developer friendly, but I find it more limited anyway. Last, Android hardwares are certainly a better pick at a higher price range as well.
  5. Hmm ... Very vogue and not tech-savvy comments to begin with. Both have strengths and weaknesses. They are both bred by the two sides of the Linux corporate industry. Ubuntu - It's much more user-friendly and very doable for a Linux newbie that will likely not recover easily from an error due to misuse or simply an update that broke something - It's Linux, it happens ... That being said, Ubuntu is a bigger hog-house, meaning utilizes and wastes more resources in comparison with CentOS. It however features a more updated tool-set which at some points compromises it's over all reliability. - If you need a quick and reliable server with extensive documentation and community support, featuring the latest in the Linux world and you'll be tweaking a fair lot without being in the 'Linux Navy' = Ubuntu is suitable for you. CentOS - To be honest, not much can be said about it once it's noted that CentOS is the basis of RedHad Linux and RedHad is used at governments, hospitals and places where stability and resource consumption is critical = CentOS is for you. Though as apparent from the above said, it does not feature the latest packages, has a bad documentation and requires a certain level of Linux know-how, but once taken seriously for me personally CentOS is beating the crap out of Ubuntu any day. My two cents, hehe. :P
  6. Nevermind, I got it working. Apparently one has to remove a double slash that's somehow added in front of the "admin", a.k.a "mydomain.com//admin/install/" ...
  7. The title says it pretty much all. I'm trying to install the IPS 4.1.19.4 freshly downloaded from here, I just unzip the files and put them on my host, then I access my domain and attempt to start the installer. However On the requirements page I'm prompted with these lines of errors: IPS\Db\Exception: No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it. (2002) #0 C:\Users\Standing Wave\Desktop\_XAMPP-714\htdocs\project-zenith.network\system\Db\Db.php(119): IPS\_Db::_establishConnection('IPS\\Db', Array, false) #1 C:\Users\Standing Wave\Desktop\_XAMPP-714\htdocs\project-zenith.network\system\Settings\Settings.php(157): IPS\_Db::i() #2 C:\Users\Standing Wave\Desktop\_XAMPP-714\htdocs\project-zenith.network\system\Settings\Settings.php(107): IPS\_Settings->loadFromDb() #3 C:\Users\Standing Wave\Desktop\_XAMPP-714\htdocs\project-zenith.network\system\Http\Url\Friendly.php(455): IPS\_Settings->__get('furl_configurat...') #4 C:\Users\Standing Wave\Desktop\_XAMPP-714\htdocs\project-zenith.network\system\Http\Url\Friendly.php(91): IPS\Http\Url\_Friendly::furlDefinition() #5 C:\Users\Standing Wave\Desktop\_XAMPP-714\htdocs\project-zenith.network\system\Http\Url.php(242): IPS\Http\Url\_Friendly::createFriendlyUrlFromComponents(Array, '/admin/install') #6 C:\Users\Standing Wave\Desktop\_XAMPP-714\htdocs\project-zenith.network\system\Request\Request.php(244): IPS\Http\_Url::createFromString('http://project-...', true, true) #7 C:\Users\Standing Wave\Desktop\_XAMPP-714\htdocs\project-zenith.network\applications\core\modules\setup\install\systemcheck.php(46): IPS\_Request->url() #8 C:\Users\Standing Wave\Desktop\_XAMPP-714\htdocs\project-zenith.network\system\Dispatcher\Controller.php(97): IPS\core\modules\setup\install\_systemcheck->manage() #9 C:\Users\Standing Wave\Desktop\_XAMPP-714\htdocs\project-zenith.network\system\Dispatcher\Setup.php(222): IPS\Dispatcher\_Controller->execute() #10 C:\Users\Standing Wave\Desktop\_XAMPP-714\htdocs\project-zenith.network\admin\install\index.php(14): IPS\Dispatcher\_Setup->run() #11 {main} Note, I find the configuration file in the root being empty, is that normal? Apparently I'm using latest Xampp. I did try to run it on a localhost which yield the same results. It's true I haven't tried to install an IPS before, just an IPB last in 2014 but there's something really odd I seem not to have the time right now to debug myself, or I am plain dumb and wasted after long days and nights of coding. Help me out please, anything is welcome!
