Welcome to webflake, you learn to tolerate it after long enough.

You missed the last step, and that is what is causing such a large space to the left, the margin is still set to respect the left-side author info. Once again, the final margin change was overlooked, as little of a change as it may be, it's crucial

That's pretty neat. Well done. If you ever decide to scrap the project or just lose interest I'd like to finish it off atleast because it would be a huge contribution to the IP.Board community (regardless of copyright circumstances). I like some of the features of the TTG website and may actually incorporate them now. Thanks for the inspiration!

#161616 I think would be a good place to start for a navigation wrap.

Custom designed forum. [UPDATED][HONEST OPINIONS]
Murilirum replied to a topic in Website and Graphics Design
How would a shadow effect between the content and body mess up the design? If I have time later today I will generate one. rather busy on my recent IPB skin though -
Custom designed forum. [UPDATED][HONEST OPINIONS]
Murilirum replied to a topic in Website and Graphics Design
Personally not a fan between the body background meeting the content, perhaps a shadow effect? But the whole 'metro' feel to it is something I like, and furthermore I like the edit to the topics and replies location, really makes the table row fully utilized. Overall I'd cap it at 6.5/10 myself because there's still a significant amount of room for improvement but better than just a boring 6 -

This modification will allow you to have a hierarchical structure for your forum and threads. On default installations IPB identifies forum and thread sections as following : Forums : domain.com/forum/id-forumname/ Threads : domain.com/topic/id-threadname/ This modification changes this and allow you to have any desired format you want. The default format that is shipped within the modification is designed to match the most used vBSEO URL format. Forums : domain.com/forumname/ Threads : domain.com/forumname/id-threadname.html However with customising furlTemplates.php that is shipped with this modification , you'll have ability to customise this further to your choice. It also has a built in stop world filter that is also configured to match default vBSEO stopwords. This modification is mainly targeting users who convert their boards from vBulletin + vBSEO combination or want to have better Forum Hierarchical structure power users. With this modification you can switch your vBulletin + vBSEO combination to IPB with NO indexed thread or forum URL loss. [s]Once installation is completed , you'll be required to run a CLI tool to build thread and forum seo titles and once you flush your cache , you'll be good to go. Data-tooltip* Is it javascript based? I'd like to add something similar to that onto my website, because it's a much nicer way to display information, but I am unsure how to go about doing this. What would be the best method to do this? Or at least whatever it is called so I can go on a google expedition.

What it is going to look like: Please note that this tutorials is based on the Default IP.Board (3.4.x) skin and may be slightly different or incorrect depending on other variables (i.e skin, board version etc.) For support, questions, or corrections feel free to post your reply. We will have to be making edits to the following: [*]UserInfoPane (Global Templates) [*]IncludeRTL (Global Templates) [*]ipb_styles.css Replace userinfopane with this: <div itemscope itemtype="http://schema.org/Person" class='user_details'> <div style='float:left'> <ul class='basic_info'> <if test="avatar:|:$author['member_id']"> <li class='avatar'> <if test="canSeeProfiles:|:$this->memberData['g_is_supmod'] OR ( $this->memberData['g_mem_info'] && ! Lastly, in ipb_styles.css locate: AUTHOR INFO (& RELATED) STYLES And replace that entire sub-section (above board-index-styles) with: /* AUTHOR INFO (& RELATED) STYLES */.author_info{ width:auto; font-size:12px; padding:10px 10px; line-height:150%; border-bottom:1px solid lightgrey; clear:both;height:100px} .author_info .group_title{color:#5a5a5a;}.author_info .member_title{word-wrap:break-word}.author_info .group_icon{margin-bottom:2px} .custom_fields { color: #818181;}.custom_fields .ft { color: #505050; margin-right: 3px;}.custom_fields .fc { word-wrap: break-word;}.user_controls { text-align: center; margin: 6px 0;} .user_controls li a { display: inline-block; background: #f6f6f6; background: -moz-linear-gradient(top, #f6f6f6 0%, #e5e5e5 100%); /* firefox */ background: -webkit-gradient(linear, left top, left bottom, color-stop(0%,#f6f6f6), color-stop(100%,#e5e5e5)); /* webkit */ border: 1px solid #dbdbdb; -moz-box-shadow: 0px 1px 0px rgba(255,255,255,1) inset, 0px 1px 0px rgba(0,0,0,0.3); -webkit-box-shadow: 0px 1px 0px rgba(255,255,255,1) inset, 0px 1px 0px rgba(0,0,0,0.3); box-shadow: 0px 1px 0px rgba(255,255,255,1) inset, 0px 1px 0px rgba(0,0,0,0.3); -moz-border-radius: 3px; -webkit-border-radius: 3px; border-radius: 3px; padding: 5px; color: #616161; } Last, but not least, search for: margin: 0 10px 0 185px; and change it to margin: 0 10px 0 15px; Save and you will have a horizontal userinfopane. Just a word of forewarning, this code does not have the usergroup text (Administrator, Moderator etc) included on the author_info. It's easy to add, but it was left out intentionally because this was what I currently use for my board.

Could be done in a much better fashion but it works none-the-less.

Don't do 'gaming' specialize yourself to ONE game. Stick to A game or A genre of game (maybe all of the halo series, for example) and REALLY give information or content not seen elsewhere. I hate to admit it, but unless you have some sort of youtube activity, it's really difficult to make gaming interesting because it's generally all the same material that gets shared. Like Evarni said, it has to be something YOU like. I could make a forum on the battlefield games, heck I have a spare licence I could throw it up with a domain within an hour have a full forum set up. But I don't play battlefield so there's really no use. But it's the stages after that where the grind begins. You'll have to become a private investigator for your cause, find information often overlooked, share information that you hold dear to your heart. Make your site not only worth clicking the link for, but worth coming back to. Don't push the URL into peoples faces, make it so once they click the link, they are drawn in. I do Apple Application development, and there is a single key element that has helped me with just about everything I do when it comes to online marketing. Or being a salesman at all. You have roughly 5 seconds to show off portions of your product (IE Website, not necessarily the best content) before either a) your viewer is drawn in and interested or b) they simple navigate back to the page they came from, or simply close the tab. You also need to realize, you're going to have those assholes with the hatchet trying to chop you down every move you make. Remember to stay true to your cause and at the end of the day, do what you feel you want to do. No one else is going to make the site successful, only YOU can make great things happen. if you do focus on gaming, go with quality rather than quantity. Introduce new creative methods of playing the games, some fun 1v1 game modes to play when you have a friend over. Make in-depth posts for book worms like me to read and actually be able to assess. But my GOD don't do what seemingly everyone else tries to (I'm guilty as charged as well). Website [*]News & Announcements [*]Other Random Forum name Games [*]Call of Duty [*]Halo [*]Battlefield [*]Resident Evil [*]Yaddayaddayadda Consoles [*]Xbox [*]PS3 [*]Wii [*]Etc. Other [*]iPhone [*]blah blah blah I see it WAY too often and to be quite honest it's down right disgraceful to see anymore. I do wish you the best of luck, but personally if you're huge into mixing your own tunes, I know you can integrate your IP.Board with Soundcloud and have some outstanding setups with that. If you would be able to give that one a shot you never know what kind of outstanding potential that can add up to.
