For simple applications such as word processing, emails and web browsing, AMD works well for a low budget PC. However, if you require more processing power such as graphics, Intel is definitely the way to go. Also, from my experience, AMD heat dissipation is higher than Intel. But do not forget that ARM processors are dominating the mobile markets.
