Hi, I'm using IPB 3.4.4.
I want to set up my forum so that new members can only access one section of the forum (Applications) and they won't be able to even see the other sections until they've been approved.
Then once I approve them and move them into a new user group they will be able to see the other sections of the forum.
PS. Is there a way to change what group new members are assigned to? As it is now it goes Guest > Validating > Members.
If anyone could help it would be greatly appreciated.

I don't know if there's an easier way to do it but what I've done is...
System Settings > System > Security and Privacy - Check the box for "Force guests to log in before allowing access to the community"
Then I've changed the default user group in conf_global.php (this is not needed but I wanted to change it)
Then I set the group permissions for my new default user group to have guest permissions.
Then I set the Applications section of the forum to be viewable by guests.
I don't know if I've done this some weird and roundabout way but it seems to be working, so I thought I'd post for anyone else wanting to do this.
