Try this.. 
System Settings - "Members" tab - User Profiles - Allow users to use Gravatars ..... select "no" 

System Settings > System > Security and Privacy - Check the box for "Force guests to log in before allowing access to the community"
 
Then I've changed the default user group in conf_global.php (this is not needed but I wanted to change it)
 
Then I set the group permissions for my new default user group to have guest permissions.
 
Then I set the Applications section of the forum to be viewable by guests.

It comes along with the skin.. You have to edit the coding to enable it though.

Yes, as it is easier than fixing all of the bugs.  I highly suggest downloading this and doing a fresh install. 
 
Since I am free. I wouldn't mind to help you set everything up if you would like.

To access the group permissions go to the following.
AdminCP>Other Apps>(e34) ibEconomy>Group Permissions
There you can edit the permissions for your user groups. 

Log in to the Admin CP and click the following.
Members>Manage Member Groups>Click on The User Group You Want>Global
Under Access Permissions you will see Can view member profiles and member list?
